The windmill, which has become a visible dominant feature of the hill above the village of Bukovany near Kyjov, was built and opened in 2004. The creator of the mill is Mr. Josef Kouřil of Kyjov, who, by building the mill, fulfilled his childhood dream and created a magical place that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The three-story building of the mill holds a small exposition of Moravian Slovak cuisine from the the 1st half of the 20th century, where you will be taken back to to the environment in which our great-grandparents prepared the best dishes in the world and also the gallery, where the year-round sales exhibition “Traditional products of Moravian Slovakia from the Náplava ceramic workshop” takes place – traditional pottery (mugs, cups, jars, jugs, etc.).
On the top floor there is an observation deck, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Looking out of the mill tower, Kyjov’s Dolňácko spreads out before your eyes with its fields, orchards and vineyards. The crests of the White Carpathian and Chřiby Mountains are clearly visible on the horizon and you can even see the 110-km away Kobyla Hill near Bratislava during good visibility. The ground floor of the mill features a stylishly equipped room with a fireplace, which is used for social gatherings and business meetings.

Treasure at Bukovanský mlýn
Every old mill probably has some kind of legend or fairytale associated with it and Bukovanský mlýn is no exception. Treasure is buried beneath the floor. The builder of the mill hid some testimony there about the period during which the mill was built, for future generations. You wouldn’t find a chest of old coins or burnt parchments there. Instead a personal computer, a mobile phone and a DVD with films lie beneath the mill floor. These are state-of-the-art achievements of our civilization, which however can become a true treasure in 100 or 200 years.
